Blue Energy Motors, an Indian startup specializing in liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled trucks, plans to raise $100 million by January 2025 to expand its manufacturing capacity. The company aims to triple its sales to 3,000 LNG-powered trucks in the next financial year, starting April 2025, and is preparing to launch its first electric truck. CEO Anirudh Bhuwalka stated, “We are raising $100 million to scale up business. This funding will support the manufacturing of both electric and LNG trucks.”
Currently valued at $250 million, Blue Energy operates a manufacturing facility in Pune with an annual capacity of up to 10,000 trucks. The company has partnered with Italy’s Iveco Group to source engines for its LNG trucks. Bhuwalka noted that upon reaching a production milestone of 6,000 to 7,000 units, a new truck facility could be established within six months to meet increasing demand.
LNG-powered trucks offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional diesel vehicles, emitting up to 30% less CO₂ and significantly reducing other pollutants. Bhuwalka highlighted the environmental impact of India’s 4 million heavy-duty trucks, which emit nearly 450 million tons … ₂ annually—a figure that could more than double within the next decade if unaddressed.
